Worship

Welcome to Patria’s worship team webpage! We are delighted that you want to know more about Jesus, the worship ministry, the wonderful team of servants and find out how you can get involved.

It’s important to start on the right note. The purpose of this page is to explain what worship is all about, what the Patria worship team is all about, how things work and what our expectations are of each person in the team.

Worship is not just what happens in a congregational meeting on a Sunday. It is a lot more than singing songs. As followers of Jesus, our worship is our entire life which includes our thoughts, our decisions, our behaviour, our relationships, our marriage, our jobs, how we spend our money, how we treat others and how we advance His Kingdom in our daily lives.

The worship team understands this (and we guard this foundational truth with diligence), and what we do during a Sunday celebration is a mere overflow of the continual worship we offer unto God during the week through our lives and the way we live. The following 2 passages of scripture gives foundation to the above stated:

Romans 12:1 says, "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship."

John 4:24, "23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."

Our goal is to bring glory to God and let the focus be on Jesus Christ during worship, not on ourselves or how well we play. Our audience is not the congregation, but God Himself, who desires our worship. How do we do that? We help people realize that the Holy Spirit is already here, to facilitate a time of corporate worship to God, to make it easier for the congregation to praise Him and worship Him as they are accompanied by music, minimize obstacles and distractions and allow God to move in our midst and speak to us.

Getting Involved

The Patria worship team is a ministry that forms part of the bigger Patria family. That makes family the starting point to the process of becoming involved in the worship team. The New member orientation evening is the place for you to find out more about Patria and get connected with biblical foundations in a group where you will get to know the bigger family.

Relationships! That’s exciting! Please contact the Patria office to find out when the next new members class is.

We then require of you to enrol at a Victory weekend. This weekend is a powerful tool as you allow the Holy Spirit to set you free from “stuff” from the past and put you on a fast track in your growth process to maturity in Christ.

Then the moment you have been waiting for – audition. Yes it is needed. More information on the preparation of this audition will be discussed with you once we meet you. On passing your audition, you will be encouraged to serve and become part of the team for a minimum of 3 months before serving “on stage”. Get to know us – get to know the songs – get to know how we rehearse and settle in as a son/daughter in the family.

The worship team rehearsals are Thursday evenings 18h45. Sunday morning sound check starts at 06h45.

Our expectations are well summarised as: F.A.C.T.S

  • Be Faithful
  • Be Available
  • Be Committed
  • Be Teachable
  • Be a Servant
