Be Still

Exodus 14:13-14 NIV

Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

Have you ever placed yourself in one of the scenes of the Bible? Have you ever wondered what it had to feel like to see the whole Egyptian army come down on you with an ocean trapping you? Imagine looking over at Moses as he lifted his staff... Have you ever imagined what it looked like when God showed some of His power over nature; what it looked like when God carved a road through the ocean.

I have imagined this scene many times. Many times when the pressures of life rain down and the demonic world tries to squeeze life out of me, I read this passage in Exodus...drive down to the ocean (Glentana) and imagine God carving a road through the ocean (to Mossel Bay).

After having received a Word from God like "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”, I can imagine seeing the ocean part carving two walls of water to the left and the right. I can imagine myself walking through the ocean thinking "wow, God is big". I can even imagine forgetting about the Egyptians! I mean, have you ever walked through an Ocean!

This story speaks of God’s greatness and power, His love for His people and the fact that He wants to display His power through us.

What is your ocean? What is your dead-end? Who is chasing you?

Because God is the same yesterday, today and for all eternity, His Word stands fast and are still applicable to us in our circumstances: "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

I am repeating the scripture on purpose! Rom.10:17 says "Faith comes from hearing and hearing by the Word of God" - the more you read the scripture "Do not be afraid" the more you will realise it is a command. This command is being called out by God; what He is saying through the command is that He is bigger than your problem. What He is saying is " My child, be still, stop stressing, focus on Me, look at Me - I can do a miracle if you call on My Name!"

Church, we need to be still: We need to learn that our God is bigger than we can imagine!        We also need to remember that our enemy is unseen and that he walks around like a prowling lion, ready to devour, kill and destroy. Satan hates God, he hates you, and therefore will come against your identity with all his might. He will counter your faith in the completed work of Christ, he will attack every thought of truth with doubt and come against the living Word with force and hatred. All of this will increase in effectiveness if we are naive! If we forget about our enemy, the battle becomes "fleshly" and we think that we are struggling , stressing, worrying - all of this "feels" so real in the flesh. We war not against the flesh! Our enemy is spirit and unseen, and his demonic forces are prowling the boundaries of our lives ready to strike our naivety.

Let us be sober and on guard, let us not be naïve. Let us focus on Abba and the completed work of Christ and His power available and with us as a constant through the presence of the Holy Spirit! I say this again: "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

Let us go into this month with the dunamis power of the Holy Spirit as our constant. He is with us: the same Spirit that rose Jesus from the dead. IT IS FINISHED! Let us walk out these words in a fallen world!
